Meet the Team

Brian Kim

President & CEO

Brian brings three decades of payor administrative IT and services experience, driving innovation and value. Since joining HighRoads as CEO in 2016, he restarted the company to focus on delivering exceptional products and services that reduce administrative costs and drive scalable growth, resulting in strong measurable value for HighRoads’ customers.

Brian’s experience spans across market-facing and corporate development roles at Medco Health Solutions (now Express Scripts), NaviNet (NANTHealth), and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. He also played a pivotal role in restructuring ikaSystems, culminating in its acquisition by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. Brian is a graduate of Harvard University, and his commitment to innovative, value-driven solutions continues to shape HighRoads’ success in supporting health plans as they navigate an increasingly complex healthcare landscape.

Girish Pathria

EVP, Product

Girish leads product management for Highroads, responsible for directing Highroads’ product vision, strategy, and innovation. His healthcare IT industry experience in providing solutions for payers and providers brings incredible value to Highroads’ customers. Prior to joining Highroads, Girish held strategic leadership roles in healthcare product, analytics, marketing, and operations with Visiant (acquired by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan), Optum, IngeniousMed, Press Ganey, Carewise Health, FICO, Wolters Kluwer Health, and Elsevier.

Girish has an MBA from Kellogg School of Management, an MS in Computer Applications from Pune University, India, and an undergraduate degree in Statistics from the University of Delhi.

Jennifer Block

SVP, Professional Services

Jennifer brings deep expertise of payer systems implementation and project management to the team. For over 15 years she has specialized in large scale complex core system implementations, client implementations, and support projects. She also has in-depth experience in SDLC, IT Methodologies, solutions design, and delivery of enterprise level solutions. Prior to joining HighRoads, Jennifer held leadership roles at McKinsey and Company, Healthedge, Change Healthcare, Trizetto, and Adaptis. She also spent time on the payer side at both Premera Blue Cross and United Healthcare/Pacific Health Systems.

Jennifer has an MBA from Pepperdine University and an undergraduate degree from California State University. She is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and SAFe4 Practitioner.

Rory Curtis

SVP, Engineering

As a Senior Vice President of Engineering, Rory brings expertise gained from over 25 years of supporting organizations with innovative technology solutions to drive growth and improve efficiency. Before joining HighRoads, Rory held pivotal roles, leading cross-functional teams to successfully deliver a wide range of projects, from building and scaling large-scale software platforms to developing and launching new products at companies including Tesco, ShopDirect, and Canon.

Rory holds a BSc Hons degree in Computing and Information Systems from the University of Ulster at Jordanstown

Joe Mele

SVP, Finance

Joe leads the finance function for Highroads bringing with him over 15 years of accounting experience with a focus on corporate accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls. Prior to joining HighRoads, Joe held management positions at Zmags Corporation, McGladrey, The Mentor Network, and CTI Data.

Joe holds an MBA from the Manning School of Business and an undergraduate degree from Fitchburg State University.

Todd Petersen

SVP, Sales & Marketing

As Senior Vice President of Sales, Todd brings extensive healthcare technology and growth experience to HighRoads. Todd is an experienced healthcare sales and marketing leader with over 20 years leading both new sales and growth within existing accounts. Prior to joining HighRoads, Todd held executive positions at Optum, DRx, InstaMed, HealthSparq, and ActualMeds. He is currently involved in advisory board positions to help small companies make a positive impact on healthcare and our communities.

Todd holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of South Florida.

Brian Kim

Joe Marabito

Joe Marabito is a senior executive, strategist, and advisor with extensive experience in healthcare. He has held multiple senior executive and board roles at large established companies, including Accenture, Express Scripts, and Elevance Health, as well as at smaller rapidly growing privately held innovators, including NaviNet, Advantasure, and Ingenious Med. As a health care strategy partner at Accenture, he advised senior leaders in many of the largest health care organizations in the United States. As a senior executive at Elevance Health (then Blue Cross Blue Shield of Missouri), he was responsible for the company’s underwritten business, product management, care management, strategy, ventures, and M&A. In CEO, COO, and general manager roles, he successfully scaled and accelerated the growth of multiple businesses. He currently works with a diverse range of clients to identify and assess emerging technologies and business opportunities, and to start up, manage, scale, turn around, and grow enterprises.

Elena J. McFann

Elena McFann is a highly accomplished senior executive with over 30 years’ experience in managed care, having led government programs businesses, network strategy, and value-based care programs. She is an expert at collaborating to solve complex challenges while delivering improved financial performance and operational effectiveness. In particular, Elena is passionate about transforming healthcare quality, cost, and experience outcomes for the most vulnerable populations.

Elena served as President of Elevance Health’s Medicare business, where she was responsible for strategy, financial performance, and operational execution for a $31 billion business serving more than 2.6 million Medicare-eligibles in 24 states. She turned around financial performance in less than three years, significantly improving profitability, Medicare Advantage membership growth, and member retention. Previously, Elena was President of Elevance Health’s $11 billion Medicaid business in the West Region.

Prior to Elevance Health, Elena held several senior leadership roles at UnitedHealthcare, including CEO for UnitedHealthcare Medicare & Retirement’s Central Region, encompassing nearly 1.2 million beneficiaries across 15 states, delivering over $14 billion in annual revenues. During her tenure at UnitedHealthcare, she also served as Chief of Staff to the CEO; Vice President of Network Strategy and Innovation; Vice President, Pacific Region Network Management and Integration; and Vice President of Network Management. Before joining UnitedHealthcare, Elena worked for PacifiCare Health Systems, Corvel Corporation, MedPartners, and Ernst & Young.

Elena serves on the Board of Directors for HighRoads, Inc. HighRoads’ advanced technology platform delivers an enterprise-wide single source of truth for its health plan clients’ products, supporting seamless integration across key administrative processes and data and delivering significantly improved accuracy, speed to market, and operating cost efficiency.

She also serves on the Board of Directors for Zing Health which offers Medicare Advantage plans with a specific focus on historically underserved populations with chronic special needs. Zing Health places the physician and member at the center of the healthcare equation; prioritizes a local, community-based approach to address social drivers of health; and tailors care and service to the unique needs of each of their members.

Elena graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. She earned her MBA from Southern Methodist University and a Master of Health Care Delivery Science from Dartmouth College.

She gives of her time and expertise as a founding member of the MIT Priscilla King Gray Public Service Center which helps MIT students strengthen critical skills through internships, fellowship projects, and groundbreaking social ventures. Elena is an MIT educational counselor, as well as a member of the Alumni Advisory Panel for the Dartmouth Master of Healthcare Delivery Science program. Also, she serves on the City of Marco Island Audit Advisory Committee, as appointed by the City Council.

Edward J. Novinski

Ed, the executive chairman board of directors, was senior vice president of United Health Networks, the division responsible for United Health Group’s commercial, Medicare and Medicaid contractual relationships nationwide, including 450,000 physicians and ancillary providers affiliated with 4,800 hospitals. Edward’s division of 2,300 full-time employees was accountable for medical costs of just over $100 billion annually.During his 10-year tenure in this position, Ed led the effort to structurally and culturally transition the organization from a decentralized to a centrally managed structure. In doing so, he recontracted the network to meet the strategic, operational and product objectives of each of UHG’s principal lines of business based on a value proposition of cost, product flexibility and access. Ed also head leadership roles with MedPartners Inc., United Health Group, Luteran General Hospital and Parkside Human Service’s physician practice management and Physician Hospital Organization services (now Advocate HealthCare).

Lou Volpe

Lou is the managing general partner at Kodiak Venture Partners. Prior to joining Kodiak, he was president, COO and director of ArrowPoint Communications where he was responsible for all of ArrowPoint’s functional organizations and managing worldwide operations to achieve company growth objectives. ArrowPoint had a successful IPO in March 2000 and was acquired by Cisco Systems for $5.5 billion in June 2000.Prior to joining ArrowPoint, Lou was senior vice president of Worldwide Sales and Marketing and a member of the board of GeoTel Communications, which was acquired by Cisco Systems in June 1999. He joined GeoTel early in its developmental stage and was a major contributor in building its worldwide sales and marketing presence. He was also instrumental in guiding the company through its IPO and eventual $2 billion acquisition. Previously, he served as senior VP of Marketing and Operations for Parametric Technology Corporation from 1989 through 1994. Before Parametric, he was an executive at Prime Computer. He has been an active investor and board member of a number of companies, including Atria (acquired by Pure) and Softdesk (acquired by Autodesk). He is a member of the board of directors for several Kodiak portfolio companies, including Azimuth Systems, ChannelAdvisor, Egenera, GlassHouse, HighRoads, Newforma and SpaceClaim.
